Goat herd increase!

We have incresed our goat herd by another 13 goats!.... I went to an auction to sell 33 rabbits last Saturday, and came home with 13 goats. 6 Saanen does, a boer buck, 2 boer does, and alpine doe, and 3 boer doelings. I am real excited about goats right now. I am especially interested in the "boer" breed.

The rabbits are still doing very good. A lot of people are interested in the french Angora right now. It seems like it goes in streaks, where everyone is interested in a certain breed.... and it cycles throughout the year.

Well, until later, Have a great day.... stop by and visit when you have a chance!

A new addition to the Hobby Farm!

We bought a male Llama. The girls have named him LeRoy. He is spending alot of time with the 6 goats and the miniature horse. The horse was mean to LeRoy at first, but now they are pals.
Breeding at the rabbitry has slowed down for the season....I don't like to have too many in the winter months. Dealing with all that ice gets old fast!

I still have plenty of rabbits available... Flemish Giants, Californians, mini-lops, french angora, and more!

Spring litters update

We had a slow start this spring with the litters. For awhile there, it seemed like every litter was on the wire or not taken care of by the doe. But, that has passed now, and we are off to a great "late" start. We have come a long way with our Flemish Giants and our French Angoras.

Currently we have juniors in both of those breeds available. We have expanded our Flemish Giant lines to include light grey, white and black, in addition to our fawns and sandies.

The French Angoras have been going out the door quicker than we can breed this spring. It is a high maintenance breed, and therefore there aren't too many around. This causes a "rush" season during the spring of the year when eveyone wants their show or fair projects. We regularly get customers from 5 states surronding Wisconsin. It seems like many of our French Angoras end up in Iowa for some reason.

We will be weaning a litter of mini-lops around the 1st of May, so it's first come first serve on that litter...We are not expecting them to stick around too long, as they are all show-quality juniors!!

I'll try to keep updated on this blog, so stop back soon to see what has changed at Auroraville Rabbitry!
